General points to bear in mind when you are typing

General points to bear in mind when you are typing

Use a copy holder. Copy holder be purchased reasonably and either locate on the desk or are attached to the monitor. At initial step it will be best to position the hand chart on this holder, but ultimately your work can go there, thus dropping the possibility of any eye strain.

Correct the room lighting: When you are working in an office, several rules and regulations will order where your equipment is placed. In case of home, there should be a window behind your monitor. The glare, either from sunshine or lighting should be not permitted to exist. It is a good practice to place a screen filter on the front of your monitor screen.

Take regular breaks. Taking regular breaks at least ten minutes every hour will not make you bored with typing.

Eye checks - Have regular eye checks at least every two years. If there is any defect in your eye, pay a visit to eye specialist because care and cure of eyes is very important.

Use the Courier: Use12 point size for all the drills, this is what we name a fixed font so that each letter occupies the same amount of space, and lines will all finish at the same point. Using double line spacing is also a good idea, as a result that you can see your work more clearly.

Keep fingers on the Home Keys. There are eight keys on the keyboard well-known as the 'Home Keys'. They are located in the middle of the keyboard, and they from left to right are a, s, d, f, j, k, 1,;. The four fingers of your left hand are for the a s d f and the four fingers of your right hand are for the j k 1 and;. Most computer keyboards have indication on the f and j to help you position the right keys without looking to the keyboard. Your fingers should always stay close over these eight keys and from this position you will have to move up and down to every letter, figure and symbol on the keyboard. Type each line and, most importantly, until it can be typed devoid of looking at the keys or your fingers. It is said to be 'touch typing'.

Remember
  • Keep fingers on the Home Keys. [(asdf = left hand)(jkl; = Right hand)]
  • Speak the letters to yourself when you type them.
  • Do not get into bad habits by using the wrong finger for the letter you are going to type.
  • Do not look at the keys or your fingers.
  • Typing slowly at initial stage, work at your own rate. Speed and accuracy will come together.
  • Watch the paper from the correct angle. Do not tilt your head forwards it puts a strain on your neck.
  •  Always remember that successful touch typing takes both time and effort. There is not any substitute about it - If you are tired, something gets to pain or everything gets to go wrong, leave it for another time. You will be amazed immediately how quickly your speed and accuracy will put together if you work hard enough.
